In collaboration with Gall Architects and Green Leaf Engineers we submitted an entry into the Helsinki City Library design competition.
Our approach to this competition was one of developing, critiquing, revising and participating in an ongoing (perpetual) process of designing a cultural place for the city of Helsinki. Through imagining a viable and energetic cultural future for the city, we established critical scenarios which determine the designing of the built space. In this manner, the design process is as, if not more, important than the consequent outcome (proposal). The emphasis is on the thinking that this process is an ongoing one, that the only permanent characteristic that this building will have is that it will continue to design every thing and every person it connects with. In the end a library is a place for designing culture.
